Look to God Alone

Read Ezekiel 29:1 through 32:32

Published: Aug 18, 2017

Why was God angry with Egypt? He should have been angry with Judah because the people of Judah were the ones who sought help from the Egyptians, instead of seeking help from God (Ezekiel 17:15). God did punish His people for their rejection of Him, allowing the Babylonians to overpower and destroy them. But does it make sense that God also sent the Babylonians to destroy Egypt? It makes perfect sense.

“You have been a staff of reed for the people of Israel. When they grasped you with their hands, you splintered and you tore open their shoulders; when they leaned on you, you broke and their backs were wrenched” (Ezekiel 29:6–7).

Every good father disciplines his children. But no loving father permits harm to his child. Israel got hurt when it turned to Egypt for help. In Jeremiah 42 God plainly warned His people not to flee to Egypt or disaster would follow. This is one reason Israel’s Heavenly Father brought down Egypt. God does not threaten in vain. He will keep His word.

Prayer Suggestion: Thank You, Father, that we can look to You for security, no matter what we face.

Quicklook: Ezekiel 29:1–10
